First 90 days Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm; then may work different shift

Job Summary:

Responsible for carrying out the basic security functions of the university including but not limited to: the protection of life and property, maintenance of public order, prevention of crime, response to emergency situations, diffusing difficult situations, securing buildings and enforcing university rules and regulations.

Environmental Hazards:
There is exposure to physical danger, such as:
1. Dangerous criminal elements
2. Arrest situations
3. Mentally deranged persons
4. Traffic accidents
5. Unruly crowds
6. May be exposed to disease or hazardous materials during emergency responses
7. Must often work outside in any weather and often in other unpleasant and/or hazardous conditions  

 


Physical Requirements:
Must be able to lift up to 100 lbs, push, pull, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, stand, walk, finger, grasp, feel, talk, hear, see and do repetitive motions with or without  reasonable accommodations. 

Walk and run up or down multiple flights of stairs. Lift or pull an injured person to safety (up to 100 lbs.).  Operate a security vehicle in routine and emergency situations. Follow a fleeing suspect a moderate distance, up to 1/2 mile. Detain a suspect and maintain custody. Stand and/or walk continuously for a regular eight-hour shift.

Please be prepared to show licenses/certifications if selected for an interview. CLEET Certification Phase 1 (Basic), Phase 2 (Officer) and Phase 4 (Firearms); Current Driver License

Education & Experience

Position Qualifications:

High school diploma/GED.

One year of related work experience is preferred but not required.  

Current CLEET License in:  Phase 1 (Basic), Phase 2 (Officer) and Phase 4 (Firearms).

It is required that officers possess the verbal skills to effectively communicate with others and have the ability to effectively interview those persons to gain pertinent information. Officers must be able to communicate quickly and clearly.

It is required that officers develop the mental ability to deal with stressful situations, yet remain calm and make rational decisions involving the lives and safety of others.

An officer will be expected to perform day-to-day duties through the operation of the following types of equipment: computer, telephone, radio. Must be proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
